(Hosted by Washington Council of Lawyers) Best Practices in Pro Bono: “I Am Not A Cat” – Tips for Effective Remote Representations

April 30, 2021 @ 12:00 pm - 1:15 pm

This event is hosted by Washington Council of Lawyers, featuring DCVLP’s Equal Justice Works Fellow, Ashley Carter.

No lawyer wants to show up to their court hearing as a cat. Yet, we all are learning about how to make pro bono work in a virtual world, and perhaps making our share of mistakes along the way.

The Washington Council of Lawyers invites pro bono coordinators from law firms, legal services organizations, government agencies and in-house legal departments to join their next Best Practices in Pro Bono program for a candid discussion of how to make pro bono work in the virtual world. Panelists will highlight the strategies, tools, and skills that enable pro bono volunteers to navigate virtual client interactions, witness prep and investigation, co-counseling, and remote court proceedings.

Panelists are all lawyers who have experience with remote representations of clients, including hearings in D.C. Superior Court. They are:

  • Yvette Banker, Federal Government Pro Bono Lawyer
  • Ashley Carter, DC Volunteer Lawyers Project
  • Sébastien Monzón Rueda, Legal Counsel for the Elderly
  • Jenadee Nanini, D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center

The moderator will be Lise Adams, D.C. Bar Pro Bono Center. To register, click here.
